The Opportunity
Following internal movement, we are recruiting for a Communications and Control Engineering Officer for a 24 month - Fixed Term contract. 

Undertaking maintenance, testing, commissioning diagnostic and investigative service, as well as repairs of complex Communications and Control systems equipment and associated secondary systems - and support an efficient and cost effective service on equipment owned by Powerlink and other electricity industry organisations.

Essential qualifications and licences:

  • Queensland Restricted Level 1 Electrical licence qualification.
  • Relevant Electronics Trade certificate
  • “C” Class drivers licence
  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.

You must be able to demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of Communications and Control systems testing in a field environment.
  • Applying Safety and Environmental Management principles, to ensure all work is completed safely and is environmentally compliant.
  • Ability to perform maintenance, testing and commissioning of associated Control and SCADA systems and associated equipment, in high voltage substations and/or test centre environment.
  • Ability to use automated and microprocessor controlled test instruments for use on associated Control and SCADA systems and associated equipment and interfaces with protection systems.
  • Ability to effectively fault find on complex electrical circuitry and schemes.
  • Ability to secondary isolation and secondary systems work programs.
  • Ability to prepare Technical Reports and Work Procedures.


Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Acts, Standards, and codes of Practice relevant to electricity transmission industry would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of HV primary plant and Protection and Metering systems would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work safely in a 24 hours 7 day electricity supply operating environment would be an advantage.


Other Special Requirements and Working Conditions (may change from time to time)

  • Work in a HV Substation/Environment
  • Work outdoors for extended periods
  • Perform manual tasks
  • Travel and work away from home for short periods
  • Work in remote locations
  • On-call roster
  • Ability to participate in emergency response (including rescue and first aid)
  • Wear personal protective equipment
  • Work overtime
  • Work at heights up to 60 metres, either in a EWP, or climbing.

Remuneration

  • This is an Engineering Officer 1 to 3 position; the salary range is from $89k to $115.  Your skills, experience and qualifications will be aligned to a Skills Matrix and a salary determination will be made.   Your salary will progress along with your skills, experience and qualifications.
  • 9 day fortnight
  • Overtime and allowance.
