The Western Australian Government and the City of Perth have signed off on the residential Salter Point area to be provided with underground power.

Energy Minister Peter Collier took part in a signing ceremony with the City of South Perth and Western Power, and said that the benefits of driving power underground included improved residential amenity; safety and security of the power supply to areas; reduced cost for local governments; and increased property values.

“Under the program, $287million has been spent, converting 77,400 properties to underground power,” Mr Collier said.

“In total, round five of the State Underground Power Program represents projects worth $77million and will connect almost 8,200 houses to the scheme which has been enormously successful.”

Salter Point is the first of 10 short-listed major residential projects to get under way as part of this round.  Other short-listed projects to follow include:

  • Town of Victoria Park (Lathlain north, Lathlain south)
