The Victorian Government has signed a new agreement with the City of Ballarat to investigate the options for a new bioenergy facility that will aim to convert organic waste into renewable energy.

The $50,000 Ballarat Green Waste to Energy feasibility study forms part of the State Government’s election pledge to explore new green technology avenues.

"Ballarat and the Central Highlands Region Waste Management Group have been looking for solutions for organic waste for several years," Cr Mark Harris, Mayor of Ballarat said.

"This funding gives us the chance to explore a range of possibilities.

"The feasibility study will also investigate how this could be implemented with no direct costs or imposts to residents," Cr Mark Harris said.

The study will produce an assessment of several options with recommendations, which will then be directed to the Minister for Environment and Climate Change, and the Minister for Energy and Resources for consideration.
