South Australia has formally signed up to the new National Energy Customer Framework, with State Minister for Energy, Tom Koutsantonis, saying it will equates to a ‘new era’ of deregulation for the state’s energy sector.

“By joining the National Energy Customer Framework, South Australia will have access to more competitive markets and a simpler regulatory system,” Mr Koutsantonis said.

“I urge South Australians to make the most of this new era of deregulation by tracking down the best energy deals and avoiding paying more than you need to for electricity and gas.”

“By joining the national framework, South Australians can also be confident that no matter what energy contract they choose - their rights will be protected.”

Mr Koutsantonis said the new framework introduces protectionwhich ensures all energy customers, including those experiencing financial hardship, can access essential energy services on reasonable terms.

“Customers can be assured that if they are having problems paying their bills they will receive help under the new law, as long as they notify their energy retailer,” he said.

As of the 1st of February, South Australians can now compare offers from all energy retailers using the Australian Energy Regulator’s free Energy Made Easy service here -http://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/
