Australia is promoting itself to key energy markets in Japan and South Korea.

Resources Minister Madeleine King is on a trade mission to dispel doubts cast by new rules in the oil and gas sector.

King's Tokyo agenda is twofold: reassuring energy partners about investment stability and lamenting the underappreciation of Australia's eco-friendly mining practices.

Her message is that Australia's new rules are not to unsettle, but to streamline.

“It is essential that companies have clarity and certainty when making investment decisions,” Ms King will reportedly say in a speech at an event at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo on Monday.

Asian partners have been eyeing the Albanese government's regulatory dance with a mix of curiosity and concern, particularly as it impacts the future of lucrative LNG exports.

King's tour, including talks with Japan and South Korea's energy heads, is less a diplomatic nicety and more a necessity to keep the investment doors open.

King’s dialogue is not just about gas - it is also about painting Australia as a holistic energy partner, navigating the green transition without losing sight of traditional resources like iron ore and coal.
