An inquiry has been launched into a large-scale power outage in Alice Springs.

An investigation is underway after a major blackout hit the Alice Springs area, knocking out services to the Alice Springs Hospital.

Northern Territory Essential Services Minister Dale Wakefield said Sunday’s “system black event” was not acceptable.

“Territorians deserve a stable and secure power system, and that is why I have called for an independent review into this incident,” Ms Wakefield said on Monday.

“The independent review will identify and investigate any system-wide issues that led to this problem occurring and the adequacy of responses, both short and long term.”

Crews reportedly responded immediately when the power went down, rushing to restore critical services in priority areas including the hospital.

Power was completely restored on Sunday night.
