Australians have been paying up to 37 per cent more for solar panels compared with other countries because of subsidies, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance group.

A research group, led by Bloomberg, found that small photovoltaic solar cells cost up to 37 per cent more than other developed nations after the world experienced significant falls in prices in 2010 and 2011.

Bloomberg group downplayed recent cuts to solar panel feed in tariff reductions, saying that solar panel retailers would likely absorb much of the costs from cuts.
