Solar Impulse has landed in Abu Dhabi, becoming the first aircraft to travel around the world without expending a drop of fuel.

Co-pilot Bertrand Piccard took the plan on its last leg from Cairo to the UAE.

Piccard and Swiss compatriot Andre Borschberg took turns on the 40,000 km circumnavigation.

The 17-leg voyage began in Abu Dhabi on 9 March last year, taking in four continents, three seas and two oceans.

The team has been recapping its achievements on Twitter;
