Who are we?

Meridian Energy Australia (MEA) is an integrated renewable electricity generator and energy retailer dedicated to operating on sustainable principles.  We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Meridian Energy Limited (MEL) based in New Zealand. We operate wind farms in Victoria and South Australia and hydro plant in NSW and we’ve recently entered into several energy offtake agreements with wind and solar developers in Victoria and NSW. We retail energy to customers using our Powershop brand in Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland.

What are we looking for?

We have an awesome opportunity for an experienced Safety and Health Specialist to join us in Melbourne.  While you will be reporting to our Head of People and Culture the role has strong links to the Safety and Health team in New Zealand.  You will be responsible for leading the implementation of our safety and health framework, championing Meridian’s safety culture by providing operational safety and health support, working closely with our hydro and wind site teams.

What you can expect to do in the role

 Managing operational safety and health support and providing specialist advice to improve our safety and health performance across the company

• Providing guidance to key stakeholders and people managers on best practice, hazard management and incident reporting and investigations
• Work collaboratively with your peers in New Zealand to ensure synergies are identified and consistency is maintained in line with the wider organisation.

What you'll need:

• Experience in operational safety and health in high risk environments
• A high level of understanding of relevant legislation and acts and requirements, preferably within a high-risk environment
• Personal credibility, proven experience in establishing strong relationships and ability to influence
• Creative, innovation mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement
• Demonstrated success in promoting behavioural change
• Ability to travel
