The Design Studio is the City of Melbourne’s centre of excellence for design. The branch champions the City of Melbourne’s commitment to a high standard of design, providing outcomes that are well considered, innovative, and highly resolved with a high level of consideration for impacts on the community through project planning, resourcing and construction.
As a Landscape Architect, you will be accountable for the development and delivery of assigned landscape, urban design and public realm projects in whole or in part. This will include working in teams or independently on business case development, project planning, monitoring, reporting, quality management, contract management, stakeholder partnerships and communications management.
Responsibilities are across the full project development lifecycle from concept through to delivery including project scope and specifications, procurement and tendering, managing consultants, contractors and stakeholders to achieve the successful delivery of key milestones and high quality design outcomes.
Operating in a complex and political environment, the ability to analyse and synthesise a broad range of information is essential. To be successful in this role, you will have the natural ability to build effective relationships and facilitate cooperation through strong partnerships, achieving agreed outcomes and effectively managing expectations.

•Ability to demonstrate and display City of Melbourne Values – accountability, integrity, courage, respect for self and others, and striving for excellence.
•A relevant tertiary qualification to degree level in landscape architecture.
•Proven ability to concurrently manage multiple projects on time, to budget and to client satisfaction within a structured reporting framework.
•Strong understanding of design process and project delivery methodologies and a demonstrated understanding of standard forms of construction contracts and landscape design industry practices.
•Proven ability to manage a project team of external consultants and contractors ensuring high level performance and taking decisive corrective action when necessary.
•High level relationship building and stakeholder management skills with the ability to deal with a diverse range of stakeholders with a broad range of expectations and client needs which are often of a competing nature.
•High level oral, written and graphic communication skills with the ability to convey and effectively impart project information and negotiate and influence outcomes including graphic competencies in hand drawing and digital graphics.
•Computer literacy in word processing and other standard office software, and high standard of competency in computer drawing packages including AutoCAD, and desktop publishing software (Adobe suite).
•Familiarity with other software packages applicable to 2D and 3D design communication and documentation are desirable.
