Graduate Engineer

Our Solar Energy Systems Group now welcomes a self-motivated and innovative Graduate Engineer from a Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering background wanting to join an exciting, interdisciplinary team in the priority areas of Solar Energy Collection, Storage and Processes. You will support practical research in the area of solar thermal component and system development aligned with CSIRO projects including experimental areas of:

  • Heliostat Design, Control and Calibration
  • Heliostat Field simulation and receiver optical/thermal design
  • Laboratory component and experimental design
  • Solar thermal plant component engineering and maintenance

Your duties will include

  • Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO that will, where possible, lead to novel and important scientific outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with all staff, clients and suppliers in the interests of good business practice, collaboration and enhancement of CSIRO’s reputation.
  • Plan and carry out engineering tasks that contribute to, and expand, the solar thermal research activities within the Solar Energy Systems Group.
  • Communicate research outcomes in both oral and written form for inclusion in presentations for a variety of audiences, reports and scientific publications

Location:       Newcastle, NSW
Tenure:          Specified term of 3 years 
Salary:           AU$62K – AU$79K + up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need

  • A relevant tertiary qualification &/or equivalent experience in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical or mechatronic design processes
  • Experience with scientific programming in Matlab or Python, and/or micro-controller programming
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team, and carry out tasks under general direction from Scientific Researchers and Senior Engineers
  • The ability & willingness to contribute novel ideas and approaches in support of scientific investigations
