Operations and Project Manager: Research and Development in Energy Data

The Position:

CSIRO is responsible for collecting, curating and researching energy consumption data from across Australia.  This work is informing energy infrastructure planning and policy and it will save billions of dollars through more efficient infrastructure investment, and help to guide Australia to a reliable, clean and affordable electricity grid.   

In this position you will manage the delivery of energy research and data projects worth millions of dollars and deliver impact across the entire energy sector. You will work within the Grids and Energy Efficiency Program to deliver and instil exceptional project management practises across the team, engage with senior stakeholders from across the energy sector to deliver collaborative research and data agreements, and consult with science, technical and program leaders to ensure that our work delivers maximum value and is a core part of Australia's energy transformation.

Based at the CSIRO Energy Centre, Newcastle, you will be working in Australia's national science institution, interacting with some of Australia's largest industries, meeting with researchers and scientists from around the world, and delivering practical solutions to challenging, complex and rewarding problems.

Your duties will include:

  • Manage the delivery of project outcomes against the strategic vision and high-level annual plans of the program, under the guidance of senior leaders within the program.
  • Work with leaders with diverse disciplinary backgrounds, including scientists, electrical engineers, social scientists, data scientists and software engineers to ensure successful delivery of key project outputs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meaningful relationships with key project clients and stakeholders to ensure that project delivery satisfies their long-term needs and to maximise the impact that our research delivers.

Location:      Newcastle NSW (other locations may be considered)
Salary:          AU$111,663 - AU$130,848 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be successful you will need:

  • A tertiary degree (preferably with Honours) or equivalent industry experience; and 3 years minimum experience in applied project management and project delivery.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the management, oversight and delivery of a diverse set of projects for external clients with tight deadlines and big expectations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills for building relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders, from senior managers to junior staff.
