Senior Well Engineer (Completions)

Arrow Energy is an integrated coal seam gas (CSG) company that explores and develops gas fields, produces and sells CSG and generates electricity.

Arrow produces CSG from fields in the Surat Basin in southern Queensland and the Bowen Basin in central Queensland. We have been safely and sustainably developing CSG since 2000 and supplying it commercially since 2004.

We own one of Queenslands largest power stations, Braemar 2 near Dalby, and we have interests in two others, giving us enough generation capacity to power around 800,000 homes. Arrow is owned by a joint venture company between Shell and PetroChina.

Reporting to the Completions Excellence Manager, you will take responsibility for defining and embedding the Well Delivery process in Arrows business and deliver wells as required. Specifically, for completing detailed offset well analysis, cost and performance KPI’s, provide upfront planning support and offset well information for input into the completion design (coal face and artificial lift) and compiling the detailed completion/intervention programs and risk assessments. 

In addition you will:

  • Conducting activities in accordance with Arrow’s environmental policies, codes and guidelines, in particular minimising energy and material usage in the workplace;
  • Ensure completion/intervention plans are aligned with Arrow policies and procedures and are in accordance with Queensland Regulations and Legislation;
  • Ensure the introduction of new technologies/equipment and non-routine operations are properly risk assessed at the planning stage;
  • Direct the preparation of operations plans for the safe and efficient program execution;
  • Use agreed project control systems at the working level and monitor the operation of these systems during project execution;
  • Maintain day to day contact and assist in change management for the CWI units (completion/workover rigs, wireline, coiled tubing);
  • Utilize Lean methods to ensure the optimisation of operations and to increase efficiency and reduce costs safely;
  • Control contracts that provide services and equipment to effectively achieve the goals of the project (including Safety and QA/QC requirements);
  • Assist with Integrated Activity Planning delivery;
  • Manage data quality of well operations and equipment in Wellview Database;
  • Raise purchase requisitions and materials reservations;
  • Steer site execution team to identify and pursue performance improvement by holding regular performance reviews and assigning actions to team members
  • Lead new Completion, Workover and Intervention Technology Innovation, prepare technology plans and follow technology maturation for key performance criteria to complement Arrow strategic direction
  • Ensure efficient key relationships with drillers, engineers and contractors.
  • Provide technical support to contractors with the focus of lowering company costs.
  • Assist in developing more detailed contracts that prescribe what is expected and what is required to be provided by the contractor.
To be successful in the role, you will have:
  • BSc Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or related discipline
  • Well Control certificate (Supervisor/Level 4)
  • Extensive experience working within the Oil & Gas industry, preferably Coal Seam Gas
  • Proven technical understanding of artificial lift systems, solids/sand control, completion equipment and deployment
  • Knowledge of QLD Legislation and OH&S responsibilities, commitment to attend relevant OH&S training and the ability to implement OH&S policies and programmes.
  • Demonstrated operational experience as an Operations Engineer and/or as a Wellsite Rig Operations Supervisor / OCR.
  • Experience in developing contracting and procurement strategies.
  • Proven experience and familiar with an integrated Well Delivery Process and experienced in both drilling (vertical/lateral/MDP) wells and completion design and optimisation.
  • Experience in Well Engineering software such as Wellview, CFER, SAP
