About the role:
We are currently seeking a Senior Specialist Environment & Waterfor our corporate office located in South Brisbane. Reporting to the Director Sustainable Development, this role provides specialist hydrological support across Peabody’s Australian platform, including active and closed mines and projects.

Duties will include:

  • Provide strategic and technical water management & hydrogeological support to Peabody Australia operations and projects
  • Facilitate external reporting (Water Accounting Framework) and water licence compliance reporting requirements
  • Oversee on-going refinement of site Water Inventory and Water Balance Models and provide technical peer review support to ground water models
  • Support the implementation of Quality Assurance processes in the collection and reporting of water related data
  • Provide technical support in the management of Peabody Coal Waste Management facilities
  • Continued development and maintenance of water related standards and procedures to support Peabody Environmental Management System
  • Provide technical support in accordance with Peabody Australia’s mine closure standard to manage water related issues
  • Develop and deliver training programs to operational personal to assist in managing water related risks
  • Support the implementation of Peabody Environmental Governance, Risk and Compliance programs
  • Liaise with and advise internal stakeholders across the business to ensure water and environmental compliance during operation and throughout mine closure
  • Liaise with regulators and external stakeholders as required
  • Assist with the delivery of Peabody corporate reporting requirements for water and sustainability, both internal and external, including the delivery of Water Accounting reports, monthly and annual environmental scorecards and reports
  • Additional support as required by the business from time to time

About You:

  • Bachelor degree in Environmental Engineering / Environmental Science or other relevant discipline
  • 8+ years’ operational experience within the environmental field
  • Specialisation in water management at mining operations including a detailed understanding of surface water and groundwater monitoring programs
  • Demonstrated experience in designing water management systems & structures
  • Erosion and Sediment Control design and implementation experience
  • Project and contractor management experience
  • Knowledge of environmental legislative compliance and interpretation - the ability to read, understand, and comply with legislation (Desirable -QLD & NSW)
  • Experience in NSW coal industry highly desirable
  • Desire to provide coaching and mentoring
  • Able to demonstrate high level stakeholder management and communication skills and be a team player
