Within this recent establishment of this new business unit, an exciting new function named Energy Transition has been created, which is dedicated to Transmission expansion. Within this function we are striving to deliver exceptional value through:

Your Role

Your next opportunity as a Principal Environment Strategy & Policy Advisor is within the newly created Social Performance team at our Perth Office is on a Permanent Full-Time basis.

You will create and embed the Environmental Strategy and Policy requirements to support the transmission expansion program. You will identify the opportunities for Western Power to implement programs and procedures that deliver best practice environment performance, in addition to establishing strategic partnerships that will underpin environmental risk management and long-term environmental benefit.

  • Accountable for developing the Environmental Strategy and Policy requirements to support the decarbonisation program.
  • Engage and influence strategic external stakeholders to support the development of the Environmental Strategy, including progression of strategic approvals that may be new or different from existing approvals.
  • Identify and manage the environmental issues of project development and include the effective engagement of key stakeholders.
  • Drive the management cadence of monitoring, reporting and audits of the environmental impact assessment process through all phases of the investment governance project cycle.
  • Provide input into line route / site selection processes and into sustainability assessment / multi-criteria decision-making assessments for line route / site selection.
  • Develop and ensure implementation of offset proposals and environmental management plans, based on interactions with stakeholders.
  • Participate in the development, communication and implementation of environmental policies and procedures that enable effective environmental management of Western Power's assets.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Environmental Management, or related discipline.
  • 15+ years' experience in managing and delivering environmental impact assessment programs and approvals in mining, construction and or infrastructure sector.
  • Extensive technical experience in statutory (government) approvals, with a demonstrated ability to strategically plan and obtain approval outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience in statutory planning and Aboriginal heritage approval strategies, risks, and opportunities.
  • Best practice experience in Environmental Management Systems, environmental policies, procedures, standards, and trends in environmental management
  • Strong negotiation and relationship skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organisation including C Suite
  • Proactive, tenacious, and strong influencer with excellent communication and presentation skills including demonstrated ability to consult, guide and influence decision makers using appropriate authority.
  • Strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills and exposure to risk management and governance processes.
  • Demonstrated management of consultants, including project delivery, budgeting, and reporting
  • Highly developed analytical skills required to be applied to complex organisational challenges and opportunities.
