Shell Australia has announced Andrew Smith will take up the role of chairman of its Australian operations after Ann Pickard steps down to take up the newly created position of Executive Vice President Artic, Upstream Americas from June.

Currently vice president of Shell’s downstream business Australia, Mr Smith will take up the position from June this year.

Andrew has had a long career with Shell both in Australia and abroad since he joined the company in 1986 as a process engineer at Geelong Refinery.

Andrew will move to Perth to take up his new role.

“Shell’s upstream business is moving to increased operatorship, so the operational experience I bring from the downstream will be put to good use,” he said.
Andrew’s successor will be Scott Wyatt, currently GM of Supply and Distribution.  Scott has been a member of Andrew’s leadership team, and will provide continuity for the downstream business moving forward.

Ms Pickard  said she leaves Shell in Australia in capable hands and looks forward to watching as it progresses a range of important LNG projects, not least of which is Prelude – the world’s first floating LNG facility off Western Australia.
“I’ve enjoyed very constructive relationships with governments in Australia and now I am excited by the challenge in the Arctic – another very important region for Shell,” she said.
