Queensland Energy and Water Supply Minister, Mark McArdle, has met with Cr Tom Tate, Mayor of Gold Coast City Council, to discuss the city’s continued growth and issues surrounding water and energy supply to the region.

The meeting forms the latest leg of the minister’s regional tour across the state in a bid to better connect the State Government with local council’s water and electricity needs.

Mr McArdle said the Gold Coast last year had water distribution and retailing returned to local council and is a growing region with huge economic benefits to the State through tourism.

“We must have strong relationships between state and local government so that we can share a vision for our growing towns and cities all across Queensland,” Mr McArdle said.

Cr Tom Tate welcomed the opportunity to talk to the Minister about the opportunities coming up for the city.

“There are certainly challenges when it comes to delivering great local government and we welcome the opportunity to talk with the Minister about how we can work with the Newman Government to plan well for the Gold Coast,” Cr Tate said.
