The Tasmanian Government has announced the first turbines at the new Musselroe Wind Farm have begun generating energy into the Tasmanian electricity grid.

Premier Lara Giddings welcomed the ‘great milestone’ for the biggest wind farm development yet seen in Tasmania.

“The wind farm will generate 168 megawatts, enough energy to supply the needs of up to 50,000 homes, equivalent to the residential power needs of Burnie and Devonport,” Ms Giddings said.
“This has been a huge development which has delivered jobs for Tasmanians, opportunities for local businesses and a significant boost for the North-Eest economy.”

All of the farm’s 56 turbines have been erected, with the farm set to hit peak production in July.

The $395 million wind farm is a joint venture between Shenhua and Hydro Tasmania.
