Another major Melbourne construction has earned its 6 Green Star Rating.

The Victorian capital has been on a green-building spree in recent years, and as sites are completed the Green Stars of sustainable building accreditation are beginning to rain down.

The latest awardee is a $440 million office building adjacent to Etihad Stadium at on Bourke Street, west of the Melbourne CBD.

The docklands site contains over 47,000 square metres of lettable area in 22 storeys, with Medibank already signed up as the anchor tenant.

720 Bourke St houses a range of environmentally-friendly and sustainable features.

It earn its Green Stars through the inclusion of an underfloor air distribution system, recycled water usage, a 230,000 litre rainwater tank for irrigation purposes, a trigeneration system (a combination of heating, cooling and power generation), and a rooftop solar photovoltaic array to reduce the heating and power bills.

The building will allow its inhabitant to appreciate the natural world as much as its designer have, by producing a park-like natural atmosphere in the downtown area

It includes 1,500 square metres of open garden space, two large plant-embedded walls and vertical gardens.

The builder’s designers, HASSELL Architects, have also included a high-tech building management system (BMS) in an effort to obtain a 5 Star NABERS building sustainability rating.
