The Australian Industry Group (AI Group) has commended the New South Wales Government’s recent announcement that it will privatise its electricity generators, but has urged Queensland to follow suite and privatise its state-owned electricity assets.

The Queensland government ha as made it clear it will not embark on major asset sales unless it has a mandate, so off the back of the announcement in NSW the timing is perfect to discuss this important policy reform,” AI Group’s Queensland Director Matthew Martyn-Jones said.

"We acknowledge that these are difficult decisions for Governments too take but that's what makes it so important to secure a broad coalition of support between th he business sector and the community.

"Over the past the past 12 months the case for selling state-owned energy assets has been bolstered by reports published by the Productivity Commission, Infrastructure Australia and the recent Energy White Paper.”
